The Miss South Africa Organisation in short Miss SA issues warning to the after reports surfaced of a social media scam using Luyanda Zuma’s name to solicit fake donations.
The alert follows a TikTok video shared by a user who encouraged viewers to contribute funds “in support” of Luyanda Zuma, the Miss SA 2025 first runner-up and popular actress. The post allegedly included personal banking details, urging followers to donate up to “R50,000” for the “Zulu queen.”
In response, Miss SA released an official statement on Tuesday, October 28, cautioning fans not to fall for such schemes.
“SCAM ALERT! The Miss South Africa Organisation has identified fraudulent social media posts falsely claiming to collect funds on behalf of a finalist. Please do not donate, share, or engage with these posts or accounts,” the organisation said.
Social media reacts
The viral video quickly drew backlash, with many South Africans criticising the call for donations and questioning its legitimacy. Some users noted that public figures often become targets of fake fundraising drives, while others expressed concern that genuine supporters might be misled.
The creator behind the post later claimed the video was “sarcastic” and not meant to be taken seriously. However, because banking details were included, online safety advocates warn that others could still fall victim to the scam.
Miss SA issues warning to the Public urging people to stay alert
The Miss SA Organisation has urged fans to verify all official campaigns through its verified social media pages and website. Online scams exploiting celebrities’ names have become increasingly common, often preying on fans’ trust and goodwill.
A reign focused on integrity
The warning comes just days after Qhawekazi Mazaleni was crowned Miss South Africa 2025, celebrated for her work in speech therapy and child development. (Read our previous feature: Mazaleni: Newly crowned Miss South Africa praised for therapeutic work with children)
As the new queen leads with compassion and authenticity, the organisation’s firm stance on transparency reflects its broader mission of protecting the integrity of the Miss SA brand and its contestants.
